2010 E-ATP Conference Chair
Eugene Burke
Director of Design and Innovation
SHL Group Limited
Eugene’s career has spanned roles in assessment development, psychometrics and
consultancy with major public and private sector organisations in developing talent
assessment programmes. Appointed originally as UK R&D Director with SHL’s UK company,
he now holds the role of Senior Vice President of Science & Innovation responsible for global product development programmes. He has worked extensively on a range of applications from Internet testing,
personality assessment, learning and effective team performance, effective localization and adaptation processes,
as well as the links between company brand and company culture.
Eugene is passionate about the benefits of valid assessment to
organisations and individuals, and has served on a number of committees and
organisations such as Chair of the British Psychological Society’s Steering Committee
on Test Standards, Chair of the BPS Division of Occupational Psychology, on the Management Board of the UK Association of Business Psychologists as well as a Council Member of the International Test Commission and as a
member of the UK team supporting current efforts to develop an ISO standard for the use of assessments in organisations. A regular speaker at scientific and industry events, Eugene has published articles and chapters on
a range of topics from selection to high risk occupations, applications of computer-based and Internet
assessment, test security, as well as more general psychometrics.

Erwin van Schaffelaar
Business Developer
Cito
Erwin works in business development at Cito in the Netherlands. Before he came to work for
Cito, he specialised in process optimisation within the production and process industry.
Now, together with Cito’s International team, he is responsible for the international market
where his focus is on European countries. His main objective is supporting countries to improve the quality of
their education by developing a monitoring system built on their curriculum. He is a big supporter of an
assessment system that tracks pupils’ progress, as a tool to help schools enhance their educational level. Erwin believes that ‘No child left behind’ should be the foundation of all education programmes.

Michael Kayser
Director of Programme Management
Pearson VUE EMEA
Michael held a number of positions within Pearson, including working in Germany and Canada before starting work within the UK education and computer-based testing market in 1998. At Pearson VUE, he is responsible for implementing and managing client programmes. His responsibilities cover the Programme Management and Product Teams for Pearson VUE EMEA. In addition, Michael is also responsible for the Exam Services Team, providing content management and psychometric support.

Cor Sluijter
Director of Vocational, Adult and Higher Education
Cito
Cor was educated at a Dutch ‘gymnasium’ (grammar school). He graduated from the
University of Amsterdam in 1985 with an honours degree in psychology. He was awarded a
PhD at the same university in 1998. In 1986, having held a research post at the University of Twente, Cor joined Cito (Institute for Educational Measurement) where he has held various
posts.
From 2003 he has worked as director of the Unit for Beroepsonderwijs en Bedrijven, (Vocational Education
and Businesses) and is responsible for product portfolios for MBO (Dutch senior secondary vocational education), HO/HBO (higher education/ higher professional education) and business.

Aranka Krechting
Cito
Aranka works as a senior account manager for Cito in Arnhem. Before working as an
account manager she was an evaluation specialist and trainer, specialized in modern
foreign languages and Dutch as a second language. Aranka worked as a teacher in Adult
Education for 24 years, teaching both Dutch and foreign adults. She graduated at Tilburg University with a major in Intercultural Communication and Language policy.
As an account manager she is
involved in certification of individuals; not only Project Managers via Ipma Certification , but also sports masseurs, health insurers and advisors on saving energy (to name but a few). Following the move towards competence based testing, Aranka finds herself as a consultant with many businesses who wish to make this change. This also
includes governmental bodies like the Ministry of Justice.

Paul Howarth
Managing Director
Pearson VUE EMEA
Paul manages the UK business and oversees the operations of Europe, the Middle East and
Africa. He has held a number of technical and strategic positions within Pearson including
at the Financial Times, Pearson PLC and Pearson Education. His priorities include delivering operational excellence to his customers and building new business in the region. He achieves this by leveraging
the infrastructure of the world’s largest CBT program managed by Pearson VUE in the UK. Paul holds an MA from Oxford University and a MBA from London Business School.
